721. ENGLISH GEORGE III STERLING SILVER CENTER BOWL BY PAUL STORR,
bearing the marks for London, 1812-1813, and the hallmark of Paul Storr (1771-1844). A large, oval, footed bowl with gadrooning on the rim and the foot, and lion's head mounts for the handles. Engraved with an elaborate period coat of arms with two French shields canted at the top, surmounted by a full-faced helm with a fish. The shield to the left is divided diagonally into seven pieces and is surrounded by a border containing the motto Tria Juncta In Uno ("Three Joined in One"), and with a laurel wreath with a Maltese Cross and ribbon at the bottom with Ich Dus, the former being the motto of the Order of the Bath. The shield to the right is divided in half vertically, the left half divided diagonally into 7 parts; the two right halves each with chevrons; a plain banner is at the base; 6.25" high, 13.75" x 9.25" at the rim, approx. 58 ozt (1835 g).
